Alaska: Open North American Championship Dog Races

If you visit Fairbanks in March, it is worth while to schedule your trip so that you can catch the Open North American Championship.

The race is over 3 days and are the oldest, sprint-races in the world. The first two days the mushers go 20 miles and the 3rd day is a longer 30 mile trip. Above you can watch a video that we took of a musher entering the chena river from 2nd street.

Above is the 2nd street finish line. See the crowds lining the street to cheer their favorite musher on in the homestretch.
