Today is blog action day and the subject of interest for 2008 is POVERTY. In the current economic times we are going to need to lend a hand out our neighbors and as a nation help those nations that are struggling. I don't have much to give but I do make micro-loans on KIVA and give Heifer International gifts as presents. These are small things but lots of small acts can create a large impact.
Here are some small changes everyone can make:
1. Donate your old furniture and clothing to the Salvation Army (find donation location here) or My Sister's Closet. This local San Diego shop is currently relocating. I donate all my clothing to My Sister's Closet because they give shopping vouchers to women and children who are trying to get out of violent homes. Any clothing that is in great condition and currently in-style might be sold to Buffalo Exchange.
2. Donate your sunglasses and eyeglasses to your local optometrist's office. See this nice list on AT Re-nest to find out where your glasses might end up.
3. Shop for gifts through stores that support local artists. Locally, near San Diego, you can try Exotic World Gifts.
